2 RU teachers earn academic award
RAJSHAHI: Two teachers under Science Faculty of Rajshahi University obtained 'Deans Award 2016'as a recognition of their laudable contributions to the field of scientific research.
The teachers are-- Associate Professor Mijanur Rahman of Department of Population Science and Human Resource Development and Dr Syed Russel Kabir of Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology. Dr Mijan received the award for his in-depth research on global health policy under the physical and mathematical sciences category while Dr Kabir for his research on cancer prevention drugs and protein biochemistry under chemical and biochemical sciences category. RU authority handed over the awards to the recipients in a ceremony held at the dean office conference hall today. Vice-chancellor Prof Mijanuddin and Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan addressed the ceremony as chief and special guests respectively with Dean of Science Faculty Prof Habibur Rahman in the chair. Treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin, Professor Subrata Kumar Mazumder and Chairman of Mathematics Department Prof Wazed Ali Pramanik also spoke.
Indian delegation meets DU VC
A three-member delegation led by Professor Bhupen Sarmah, Director of the Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development, Assam, India called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office of the university on Monday. During the meeting, they discussed the feasibility of conducting joint research on sustainable development to the border dispute between Bangladesh and North-East India. Besides, introducing of joint education and research and exchange of teacher and students among Dhaka University and different universities and higher educational institutions of the region in India were discussed. Dean of DU Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Professor ASM Maksud Kamal was present on the occasion, among others.
e-tendering procurement system at RU
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University (RU) has launched e-tendering procurement method aiming to make its projects and procurement schemes free from corruption and political nepotism.
The RU authority introduced the modern system by giving approval to a tender of engineering office yesterday under the government's e-government Procurement by GP Portal.
Opening the system Vice chancellor Professor Mijanuddin hoped that university's procurement process would be implemented quickly and in more transparent manner.
He stated that huge money is spent for public procurement purposes every year and so there is no alternative to make the procurement process transparent. He mentioned that the present government has taken steps to computerize the tender and procurement process for preventing corruption and other anomalies in this regard. The digital system in procurement of goods, works and services with public funds has also widened opportunities in doing business with the government. Prof Mijan said transparent and accountable public procurement has become an urgent need for the best use of public money together with proper implementation of the uplift programmes.
