JnU students, transport workers clash over bus fare; 3 injured

Three people, including two students, were injured in a clash between transport workers and the students of Jagannath University (JnU) in the capital’s Laxmibazar area yesterday.
During the clash, about 10 buses were vandalised and the whole area turned into a battlefield.
The injured were –Sunny, a students of mathematics department (10th batch), Roman of management department (10th batch), and Rabiul, 22, a bus helper. They were given treatment in a local hospital.
According to sources, some JnU students were involved in a dispute with a bus conductor of Azmeri Glori Paribahan over payment of bus fare on Monday night, when they were returning from Gulistan. At one stage, the conductor along with some of his associates beat up the students at BRTC counter, Gulistan and left a student seriously injured.
The injured was Saad, 19, a student of Accounting Information System (10th batch) who was rushed to Midford Hospital instant. After hearing news of the incident, students attacked transport workers yesterday morning and vandalised at least 10 buses in front of the university and left a bus helper named Rabiul injured, sources added.
Kotwali Thana Police arrested three students in this regard. But they were released later. They arrested students were --Samrat of social science department (10th batch), Sujan of anthropology department (10th batch) and Rifat of zoology department (10th batch).
Kotwali Thana OC Abul Hasan said, “No case has been filed against the three students in this connection. Though we arrested them instantly, but release them after one hour.”
A director of Azmeri Paribahan said, “We consider half-fare for the students after Communication Minister’s order, but the students behave roughly with conductor”, he said.
JnU Proctor Dr Noor Mohammad told, “We will take necessary steps  against the guilty ones after an investigation”.
