BSS

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday urged the affluent people in the society to come forward along with the government to reach health-care facilities for autism treatment, reports BSS.
"Well-off people of the society should come forward to help the government to reach health facilities to autistic people ... they (the Rich) can also build hospitals for autistics as they are establishing garments factories, hotels and other industries." He was speaking as chief guest at a roundtable meeting with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan in the chair at Milton Hall in the capital.
Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA) under BSMMU organised the event to mark the 9th World Autism Awareness Day observed countrywide on April 2.
In this connection, the minister mentioned that a mother struggles and suffers mostly throughout her life for her disabled kids. He called for implementing programmes on a priority basis through proper distribution of human resources and assets. Speaker of the discussion emphasized on creating a congenial atmosphere for autistic children in families and schools to help ensure their equal participation in society.
"It is very important to create a congenial atmosphere at home and school as proper atmosphere is vital for the mental growth of the children with autism," said the speakers.
"The physically-challenged people will have to be groomed through more affection and love by other people as they are integral part of our society," said Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan.
"All sectors have to work together in this regard," said Dr Shaheena Akhter, chief of Centre for Neuro-development and Autism in Children at BSMMU.
She underlined the need for creating mass awareness, especially among bureaucrats about the right of autistic children for a better care of them in a coordinated manner from primary to tertiary levels to maintain a suitable environment. BSMMU Registrar ABM Abdul Hannan moderated the event.
