Speakers at a conference here yesterday stressed the need for ensuring high-speed internet connections at the country’s all higher educational institutions to have access to the world knowledge pool, reports UNB. Expansion of the services of Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) is essential at higher educational institutions for producing skilled manpower, they said while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day ‘Meet BdREN 2016’ in the city. Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) arranged the function at Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) with UGC acting Chairman Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum in the chair.
Addressing the function as the chief guest, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said dedicated high-speed internet connections have to be established at all higher educational institutions, research organisations and medical colleges for having access to world knowledge pool. The implementation of virtual classrooms at university level is highly needed for enhancement of digital education, he added. Dr Dil Afroza said BdREN services are necessary for excellence in research activities. UGC member Prof Akhtar Hossain said traditional teaching and learning cannot keep pace with today’s world. So, the use of IT and high-speed internet connections needs to be increased to survive in a competitive world.
