Freedom of speech at stake: Imran
Ganajagoran Mancha spokesperson, Dr Imran H Sarker, has said that people have been gagged and it is being justified in different ways. This is an ominous sign for all. My freedom of expression is probably under threat as I talk in favour of freedom of speech and show respect for dissenting opinion. How terrible, Imran said in his Facebook status yesterday (Monday). His statement came a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinas son, Sajib Wazed Joys Facebook post criticised him for condemning the arrest and subsequent police remand of noted journalist Shafik Rehman on Saturday. I wrote in Facebook that I do not agree with the political ideology of Shafik Rehman. I did not even say anything about releasing him. So, it is clearly understandable that there is no respect for dissent in our society, he said.
When I saw that our voices were being suppressed one after another and somehow it is being justified, then I realized that this Frankensteins monster is racing towards me, racing towards us. If we dont stand against it forgetting differences, our valuables will be looted like the looting of Bangladesh Bank, when we will have nothing to do, Imran said pointing a finger at the Sheikh Hasina government.
In my Facebook status, I also wrote about the ongoing incidents of murder and rapes across the country. At least one thousand people were killed in the first three months of the year. Can anyone tell me that any of the killing incidents has been tried. Wont any person get justice because he/she is not the child of the Prime Minister? Doesnt Tonus father have any right to get justice as he is a class four employee? he said.
The ordinary people have to be a bit more aware, he said, and expressed his determination to continue with his fight against injustice.
In his Facebook status on Sunday, Joy branded Imran as an opportunist and liar for condemning the arrest of Shafik Rehman.
Joy called upon all his fans and friends, who also follow Imran, to un-follow and un-friend him on Facebook.
