A friend of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, the prime accused in a case of double murder in the capital and son of a ruling Awami League lawmayer, yesterday gave confessional statement accusing Rony for the shooting from a moving vehicle in the early hours of 14 April that killed two people in New
Eskaton area.
Kamal Mahmud alias Tiger Kamal, friend of AL MP Pinu Khans son Rony and a co-accused in the double murder case, gave the confessional statement before a Dhaka Court yesterday afternoon, said sources.
The confessional statement of Tiger Kamal, who is also a Juba League leader, was recorded by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Aminul Hoque after case Investigation Office Sub Inspector Dipok Kumar Das of the Detective Brach (DB) of police produced him before the court under tight secrecy, said sources.
According to sources, Kamal in his confessional statement said he was on the vehicle and Bakhtiar Alam Rony was driving. Rony was drunk and suddenly he opened fire on the pedestrians indiscriminately, leaving two people injured, the statement said.
Police have named Bakhtiar Alam Rony as the price suspect over the shooting and murder. According to police, near about midnight on 13 April, a person indiscriminately opened fire on people near the Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from a sport utility vehicle, injuring Abdul Hakim, a pedestrian and Yakub, an auto-rickshaw driver.
