Two shops gutted in Ctg
At least two shops were gutted in a fire at south Kattoli area under Pahartali thana in the city at 1.45 am Sunday night.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from cooking oven from one of the shop at south Kattoli area under Pahartali thana 1.45 am and it quickly engulfed the surrounding shops. On information, two units of fire fighters from Agrabad Fire Station rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 2.30 am. Valuables worth about Tk one lakh were gutted in the fire service sources said adding that none was, however, injured in the fire.

Grocery shopkeeper killed
A grocery shopkeeper was allegedly killed by unidentified miscreants at Borabo village of Kaliakoir upzila in the district early Monday.
The victim was identified as Abdul Khalek, 55, son of late Jamir Uddin of the area.  Abdul Motaleb, officer in charge of Kaliakoir police station, said Abdul Khalek was sleeping at his room. At around 3 am on Monday, he went out from his room hearing sound in his shop. At that time, a group of  miscreants attacked him and beat him up with sticks, leaving seriously injured. Hearing his screaming, locals and family members rushed to the spot and rescued him from the spot and sent to Dhaka Medical College hospital, but he died on the way to hospital. His body was sent to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

4 shops fined in Rajshahi
Four consumer shops were fined Taka 14,000 on charges of selling unhygienic and substandard foods to the customers in Rajshahi city yesterday.
A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the raid in Sapura area and found Shaymal Store, Shiplu Store, Ashoke Misty Ghar and Shaheen Store for preparing, possessing and selling foods and other consumer items in unhygienic condition. Subsequently, the team fined Taka 14,000 against the shop owners and realised the fined money instantly.
Apurba Kumar Adhikary, assistant director of DNCRP, told BSS that such drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will be continued during the days ahead.

Man goes missing in Sylhet
A farmer went missing as a paddy-laden boat capsized in Shilchanda beel of Goainghat upazila on Sunday evening.
Local sources said a group of farmers went to the Shilachanda beel area in the morning for harvesting paddy.
As they were returning home in the evening by a boat loaded with the paddy, it capsized. Entai Miah, 45, son of Monfar Ali.Entai, went missing while three others managed to swim ashore.

New chairman of REMA Trust
SM Nurul Hoque, a senior business leader, has been re-elected as Chairman of REMA (Research for Education and Management Academy) Trust.
The REMA Trust has been running Chittagong Laboratory School, Chittagong Laboratory College and REMA Teacher’s Training College for the last 17 years. Hoque, the current president of the Bangladesh Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI), is also a founder member of the organisation. An election held recently for the term of 2016-2018 elected the executive committee members of REMA Trust, said a press release on Monday.
