RAJSHAHI: Ensuring social justice and improvement of living condition of ethnic minority communities in the country’s northwest region are vital for their overall welfare, reports BSS.
The ethnic people were always deprived of land rights, food, healthcare, education and cultural facilities, so it is important that the government ensure their fundamental rights besides full-filling other requisite demands.
Speakers made this observation while addressing a meeting with leaders of some ethnic minorities on various right-based issues at Moonlight Garden conference centre in the city yesterday.
Anagrasar Samaj Unnayan Sangstha (ASUS) organised the meeting in association with Manusher Jonnyia Foundation for discussing ways and means to elevate the disadvantaged section of the society collectively.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin addressed the meeting as the chief guest with Raj Kumar Shaon, Executive Director of ASUS, in the chair. Calling for freeing the ethnic communities from the vicious cycle of poverty and making them fit for nation- building activities the speakers demanded equitable khash land allocation for the plain land ethnic communities. Stressing the need for protecting the rights of the ethnic minority people, they said importance should be attached to protecting the underprivileged people from all sort of deceptions.
The speakers underscored the need for establishing social justice towards the plain land ethnic communities removing all sorts of disparity.
