Forging greater unity 
among journos stressed

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a view-sharing meeting yesterday held out the view that forging greater unity among the working journalists is imperative for their welfare and protection from all sorts of negligence, uncertainty and repression, reports BSS.
In this regard, they said various opportunists and selfish groups are daring to attack and kill the professional journalists for self- gain. They were addressing the meeting with working journalists of print and electronic media and news agencies at Circuit House in the city yesterday.  Regional office of Press Information Department (PID) hosted the meeting focusing on various journalism issues.
Principal Information Officer (PIO) AKM Shamim Chowdhury addressed the meeting as the focal person mentioning that there is no way but to be united for strengthening their professional fields.
Commissioner-in-Charge of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain, Deputy Principal Information Officer Bidhan Chandra Karmaker and Additional Superintendent of Police Abul Kamal also spoke.
Shamim Chowdhury said journalists have been playing a vital role in nation-building process through their objective reporting. The objective reporting is very important to lead the state machinery on the right track, he said.
He laid stress on the need of playing responsible role by all quarters to take the nation forward. He viewed that both the print and electronic media depict reliable information through regular reporting and emphasized the need for constructive criticism of irregularities and wrongdoings along with appreciation of good work.
Shamim Chowdhury referred to various need-based measures adopted by the present government for welfare of the journalists including formation of journalist welfare trust and urged the local media men to ensure flawlessness in the profession.
Sharing his views, some local journalists including Editor of Daily Sonali Sangbad, Liakat Ali and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh, Akbarul Hassan Millat put forward a set of recommendations including equitable distribution of public advertisements to the regional newspapers and due wages for the working journalists.
