Hundreds of people in Barisal suffered as owners and workers of buses began an indefinite strike yesterday halting passenger travel on seven routes.
Sufferings mounted when passengers realised that there was no scheduled bus between Barisal and other routes in the morning. Barisal-Patuakhali Bus Minibus Owners and Workers Associations yesterday morning enforced strike on seven routes of Barisal protesting attacked on a bus driver and a helper allegedly by a section of transport workers over silly matter. Azizur Rahman Shahin, president of the Barisal-Patuakhali Bus Minibus owners said some unruly transport workers of Jhalakathi district demanded extra time ignoring the schedule one but transport workers of Barisal refused to do it on Sunday night and engaged in altercation. One worker of Jhalakathi was injured during the time. Following the incident, two drivers and helper were come under attack in Jhalakathi bus stand area yesterday morning at 8:30am. They also ransacked a bus during the incident. After hearing the news all mode of passenger carrying buses did not leave from the Barisal Rupatali Bus Station.
Huge police personae were deployed in the bus stand area to avoid any untoward incident. Hundreds of passengers suffered due to sudden strike.
