RANGPUR: Police arrested three local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami yesterday on charges of hurling petrol bombs, killing innocent people and conducting subversive activities, police sources said, reports BSS.
Of them, police arrested Jamaat leaders Abul Hossain, 42, and Shahadat Hossain, 50. Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of Mithapukur Thana Mohinul Islam said police arrested the two Jamaat leaders for killing six innocent people by hurling petrol bombs on running bus in village Batason under Mithapukur upazila on January 13 in 2015.
Besides, police arrested Jamaat leader Ranu Mian, 45, yesterday morning on charges of conducting various subversive activities in recent pasts. In addition, police arrested more 45 persons, including absconding accused persons of different cases, and other suspicious people from all eight upazilas in the district on Sunday night.
After primary interrogation, police produced all of the arrested persons, including three Jamaat leaders, before the concerned courts of Rangpur from where they were sent to the jail yesterday afternoon, police said.
