Employee jailed for harassing DU student

A mobile court yesterday sentenced an employee of Dhaka University to two years’ jail for sexually harassing a female student of the university’s Sufia Kamal hall on Sunday night.
He was identified as Mohammad Ali, an employee of DU Fazlul Haque Hall and also worked at the Sufia Kamal hall laundry.
General students of Sufia Kamal hall told this correspondent that a student of the respective dormitory went to the laundry on the 2nd floor of the administrative building around 9.30 pm and the accused started harassing her sexually.
Hearing the shouting of the victim, general students reached the spot soon and detained Ali (accused) at a room.
Later, he (Ali) was handed over to the Sahabagh police around 11.30 pm at the presence of DU proctor Dr Amzad Ali, Sufia Kamal hall provost Prof Nilufar Nahar and also the house tutors of the respective hall.
DU proctor told The Independent “We handed over him (Ali) to police for sexually harassing a female student and later a mobile court sentenced him to two years jail.
