The 24-hour countrywide shutdown, enforced by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami protesting against the Supreme Court verdict that upheld the death penalty of Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid, has remained peaceful so far. The hartal began at 6:00am yesterday (Wednesday) and will end at 6:00am today.
Vehicular movement was almost normal in the capital, and a large number of law enforcers were deployed at different strategic points to fend off any trouble.
