Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the alleged mastermind behind the gang-rape of a female police constable from Cox’s Bazar yesterday.
‘‘A team of DB nabbed Assistant Sub-Inspector Kalimur Rahman around 10am from a hotel at Kolatali of the tourist town,” Inspector Kazi Matiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station, told The Independent. The DB team left Cox’s Bazar for the capital with the suspect around 4pm, he added.
Kalimur, who is the victim’s former husband, had checked into the hotel as a tourist to dodge law enforcers, local sources claimed.
Earlier, while talking to local journalists, ASI Kalimur denied the allegation against him, saying the case was “ill-motivated” and filed only to harass him.
Meanwhile, doctors at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital found evidence of sexual intercourse during a medical examination of the victim on June 13, who has claimed that she was gang raped by her ex-husband and his associates at Khilgaon in the capital on June 10.
Talking to The Independent, Dr Bilkis Akther, coordinator of the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at DMCH Hospital said forensic reports suggest the constable was raped.
