Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla has said that Bangladesh and India are inter-linked in their destinies and their goals are the same - removing poverty and providing socio-economic justice and development for their people.
He said this at a function marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, held at the auditorium of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) on Friday. The Bangladesh-India Friendship Society and the High Commission of India, Dhaka, jointly organised the function.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, “Our leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also view our relationship through the prism of these goals and are committed to taking the relationship to new heights.”
“Bangladesh is cited as a model when we speak of success in the implementation of the MDGs. It has achieved the status of becoming a lower middle income country and is on its way to becoming a middle income country by 2021,” he said and added that the vision of digital Bangladesh is to bridge the social divide and reduce the gap between the haves and have-nots.”
Political adviser to the Prime Minister, HT Imam, Member of Bangladesh Law Commission, Professor Dr Shah Alam, and President of Bangladesh-India Friendship Society, Dr AK Azad Chowdhury, addressed the function. Secretary of Bangladesh-India Friendship Society, Subir Kushari, officials of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and officials of the Society graced the occasion with their presence.
