2 killed as truck plunges into Dakatia river

A truck driver and a worker were killed as a truck turned turtle and plunged into the Dakatia River while it was being loaded with goods on the riverbank in Truckghat area of the district town yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Mostafa Chaprashi, 65, the truck driver, and Alauddin, 25, a worker.
Two more workers were also injured in the incident.
Witnesses said the truck upturned at the direction of its backside and plunged into the river along with the driver and four workers when it was being loaded with goods from a trawler anchored at a wharf in Truckghat area on Saturday afternoon.
On information, a firefighting unit from Chandpur North Fire Station rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the deceased from under the drowned vehicle after two hours of frantic efforts.
Sub-inspector of Chandpur Model Police Station Jakir Hossain said the injured have been admitted to a local hospital while the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to the family members after completion of the legal procedure.
