Gaibandha: District administration has initiated to introduce midday meal programme to a good number of government primary schools of the district as early as possible to check dropout rate of the children, reports BSS.
Office sources said a DO (demi official) letter signed by Abul Kalam Azad, principal secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was received by the district administration last month.
In the letter, the principal secretary asked the district administration to introduce midday meal programme in the primary schools located at rural areas of the district to ensure 100 per cent enrolment and check the dropout rate of the students.
Principal Secretary also said to introduce the midday meal programme is the desire of the PM and in this context, he sought whole hearted cooperation of all the well-off section and solvent men of the society.
Accordingly, the district administration here has become so much serious and has been working relentlessly to introduce the programme here with active cooperation and participation of all.
To end this, deputy commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad is communicating with the leaders of different professional groups, well-off section, and solvent persons of the society and requesting them for financial help.
The DC also is holding meeting with the men at his office now and then to turn the programme into reality, said additional deputy commissioner (Gen) M. Shamsul Azam.
District primary education officer AKM Amirul Islam said the district administration would be able to introduce the programme in the district as the officials led by DC M. Abdus Samad are working seriously.
DC M. Abdus Samad said district administration had become serious so that a good number of primary schools of all the seven upazilas of the district were brought under the programme that could be sustained all the
year round.
DC said the programme had already been started at five schools including a char madrasha of the district as the locals positively responded the request of the administration.
