The much talked about election of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) took excitement on the first day of distribution of nomination papers yesterday when two councilors from outside Dhaka collected nomination papers for president candidates.
All the sports organizers of the arena stunned to see when Nurul Islam Nuru. councilor from Tangail Krira Chakra, bought the president’s candidate nomination paper for Taka one lakh.
Kamrul Ashraf Puton, member of the parliament of Narsingdi-2 also collected nomination paper for president candidate.
M Tabith Awal, vice-president of the running committee also collected nomination paper for the same post, was the only executive of the incumbent committee who collected nomination paper.
Besides two president candidates, Haji Tipu Sultan, Saifur Rahman Moni, former national footballer, Mohidur Rahman Miraz and Alhaj Shabbir Ahmed also collected nomination papers for member candidates.
It was known that only Kamrul Ashraf Puton belongs to a panel led by Manzur Kader, president of the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club under ‘Save the Football’ banner.
But most the panel, led by the seating president Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin yet to buy any nomination papers.
Zakaria Pintu, the captain of the Shawdhin Bangla Football team when talking to the reporters yesterday over BFF election said, “What is the scenario is created, I think Salahuddin is better, he at least keep the football on the ground. Who are buying nomination and intends to be the president of the BFF, have no connection with football, I think who works for football they should be in the football arena.”
One of the policy maker of the ‘Save the Football’ group, Ashrafudin Ahmed Chunnu informed the reporters that they own Kamrul Ashraf as the candidate of their panel.
Chunnu replied to a query said that they choose Kamrul as a testing case, “Salahuddin Bhai is very much known figure but failed to develop football, so this time we want to elect a new one, an unknown face.”
But, it’s hinted that the pool of the BFF will get more excitement when the nomination papers for all 21 posts will be sold by today.
