Gazipur mayor Mannan lands in jail

GAZIPUR: A court here yesterday sent Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor MA Mannan to jail in a violence case, reports UNB.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Iqbal Masud passed the order rejecting his bail plea after police produced him before the court in the afternoon.
Earlier, a team of Detective Branches (DB) of police arrested 10 people, including GCC Mayor MA Mannan, from Bhannara area of Kaliakoir upazila of the district on Friday night.
Later, sub-inspector of Joydevpur Police Station Ahadul Islam filed a case against 39 people, including the detained mayor, and 20-30 unknown people with the police station on the same night for torching and vandalising vehicles in Chandana of the city on the same night, said officer-in-charge of Joydevpur Police Station Khandaker Rejaul Hasan. Nine councilors of the city corporation and some BNP leaders were among the accused. The GCC mayor was released on bail from jail on March 2 last after the High Court granted bail to him in 22 cases in different times.
