Woman hurt ‘by stepsons’ dies
Benapole: A woman who was injured allegedly by her stepsons over family feud at Elishmari village in Chowgachha upazila of Jessore district on Monday night died at Chowgacha Upazila Health Complex early yesterday, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Chowgacha police station M Mashiur Rahman said Kohinur Begum, wife of Wazed Ali, a resident of the village, locked into a quarrel with her stepsons on Monday night. At one stage, they beat Kohinur mercilessly, leaving her critically injured.
Kohinur was admitted to the upazila health complex where she sucumbed to her injures early in the morning.
Man gets life term for rape
Netrakona: A tribunal here on Monday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for violating a minor girl at Durgasram village in Sadar upazila in 2009, reports UNB.
The lifer, Rubel Miah,32, son of Abdul Miah of the village, was also fined Tk20,000, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Rubel violated the girl, a resident of the same village, with death threat after she went out of the house in response to the call of nature on March 25, 2009.
Victim’s father filed a case with Sadar Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act the following day. Police after investigation submitted charge sheet accusing Rubel.
One jailed for harassing girl
Natore: A mobile court here on Tuesday sentenced a sales representative of a pharmaceutical company to one year’s imprisonment for assaulting a girl in Banghjal area of the town, reports UNB. The convict is Golam Kabir, a sales representative of Incepta Pharmaceuticals in Natore. Quoting locals, police said locals caught Kabir as he assaulted the class IX schoolgirl in the area and handed him over to police. Later the accused was produced before a mobile court led by executive magistrate Nayiruzzaman which awarded him the jail term.
Schoolgirl found hanged
Laxmipur: Police recovered hanging body of a schoolgirl from her house at Hotatia village in Ramganj upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Ramganj police station Tota Miah said family members found the body of Fatema Akter Jannat, a class VII student of Hotatia High School and daughter of Idris Ali Patwari of the village, hanging from a tree on the rooftop of her house at night and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Tuesday morning. The OC also said it would be clear whether it was a murder or suicide after getting the autopsy report.
Two killed in road crash
NILPHAMARI: Two motorcycle riders, including an HSC examinee, were killed in a road accident at Chogirbazar area in Kishoriganj upazila of the district on Monday, reports BSS.
The victims were identified as motorcyclist Biplob Miah, 30, and pillion passenger of the bike and HSC candidate Abdul Quayyum,19,of Pathanpara village of the upazila. Police and eyewitness sources said, the accident occurred  when two motorbikes collided head on in the area killing two on the spot and injuring another motorcyclist.
Injured Masud Khan, 25, was admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in critical condition. Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj police station, confirmed the incident.
