Missing friend of Tonu brother returns

Staff Reporter

Mizanur Rahman alias Shohag, a friend of slain college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu’s younger brother, returned to his residence early yesterday morning, 16 days after he mysteriously disappeared from Comilla. His elder sister, Khaleda Akhter, told this Correspondent that their uncle, Selim, found Shohag standing beside the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, which is about 200 yards away from his Narayansar village home in Burichang Upazila of the district.
Selim had gone for his morning walk around 5:30am and, after seeing Shohag, he called him. When Shohag did not respond, he went up to him and brought him to his house. Shohag told his family that a microbus had dropped him there and there was no one else inside the vehicle except the driver. The driver asked him to get down and showed him the way to our home, Khaleda quoted him as saying. When Selim found him, he appeared weak and sounded incoherent. “They took me away from here. They blindfolded me and tied my hands after they took me out of this room,” Shohag told local journalists who visited him at his house. While talking to this Correspondent over the phone, Shoag said that the detainers did not physically torture him nor did they ask him any questions. They also gave him regular meals. “I was confined to a room but I was not tied up,” he narrated. “Allah saved me as I did not commit any sin,” he said emotionally. At around 7:00pm, Khaleda said that she was going to consult a doctor for Shohag as he is very sick and had body aches as well as a headache.Meanwhile, Comilla Superintendent of Police (SP), Shah Abid Hossai, said, “We are aware of his return. He is mentally and physically unwell. We will talk to him once he recovers.” Earlier on March 27, Shohag, son of Nurul Islam, was picked up from his home by some people identifying themselves as members of a law enforcement agency. Later, a general diary was filed in this connection on March 30.
