A two-week solo painting exhibition titled ‘Baishakh and Reinterpretation of Indigenous Art’ by artist Samina Nafis will be inaugurated today at 6pm at the Galerie Zoom of Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the city’s Dhanmondi area. Samina Nafis was born in 1961. A First Class First in Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Chittagong, Nafis concentrated on rural pottery and has developed unique compositions that were featured in exhibitions both national and international. She works in oil and mixed media collage experimenting with messy motifs inspired by her childhood memories. She mostly follows the folk artists and their creations. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions both in home and abroad and illustrated several books for underprivileged children and other story books. She has written two books in Bangla- ‘Surrealism in Painting’ and ‘Drawing and Reading of Pictures’. The exhibition will be open to all until 25 April and can be visited according to the following schedule—Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday (9am to12 noon and 5pm to 8pm). Closed-Sunday.
