The Supreme Court yesterday cancelled the bail granted by the High Court to BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar in the Fulgazi upazila parishad chairman Ekramul Haque killing case, reports UNB.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order after hearing a petition.
Besides, the bench summoned three physicians of Dhaka Central Jail for submitting fictitious report over Mirar’s health condition and asked them to appear before the court in person by May 15 to explain why punitive action wound not be taken against them for recommending to shift Minar to Birdem Hospital.
It also asked to shift Minar, now in Birdem hospital, to Feni jail as eight physicians of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) submitted a report on his health condition before the court stating that the BNP leader is physically fit.
Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud stood for Minar while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
Talking to reporters, the Attorney General said, “The BNP leader tried his best to go outside the jail and he became successful. He also influenced the jail physicians for giving false medical report.”
On March 24, the SC stayed the bail of BNP leader Mahtab Uddin for two weeks.
