Stock market plunged further yesterday for the second day of the week due mainly to higher selling in financial and large-cap securities, reports BSS.
DSEX, the broader index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 29.34 points to finish the session at 4401.78.
The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also fell to 1673.93 and 1064.60 accordingly.
Similarly, Chittagong Stock Exchange DSE) (CSE) ended the day down, with its major CSCX index finishing lower at 8231.92.
The market on prime bourse remained highly in favour of buyers while 222 securities across the board suffered loss against 66 advancing issues. The CSE also saw 164 scrips closing lower against 51advancing securities.
Analysts observed that the wholesale price fall was triggered by voluminous sell of financial and large-cap stocks when market sentiment was confined to profit-taking of investors.
The daily trade value on DSE declined by 9.74 per cent to Tk 418.53 crore when the volume fell by 5.78 per cent to 11.21 crore shares. Transaction on CSE also decreased, with 89.37 lakh shares changing hands for Tk 24.89 crore.
Food and allied and tannery sectors were the day’s advancing sectors with marginal gains when the usual market movers including bank, fuel and power and telecom sectors ended lower.
The top gaining companies were Aramit, Eastern Cable, BD Lamps, Doreen Power and Exim Bank.
The major losers included Al Arafa Bank, Keya Cosmetic, Dulamia Cotton, NHFIL and RD Food.
The turnover leaders were Lanka Bangla Finance, Keya Cosmetic, Doreen Power, Aman Feed and BSRM Limited.
