BPL 3rd edition of to kick-off Nov third week

Sports Reporter

The third edition of the much-anticipated Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be staged in the new aspect in the third week of November. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in principle took the decision to hold the Twenty20 Tournament after it corrected the irregularities and the fixing scam that hit the country’s cricket hard.
Afzal-Ur-Rahman Sinha, chairman of the BPL governing council, stated these at a press conference at his Kallyanpur office yesterday.
“Bangladesh comparatively get less opportunity to play Twenty20 matches than other formats of games. So, we’ve decided to stage the BPL again to fill up the deficit of the shorter version for Bangladesh team,” Sinha said.
The BPL governing council chairman said that they have settled all the issues with Game On Sports, the event management company of the BPL.
“We have fixed up all the issues with Game On Sports. But the differences remain with the franchisee. We have decided to serve the arbitration letter once again to all the franchisees to pay their dues that will be done within one or two days,” Afzal-Ur-Rahman said.
“If the franchisee agrees to pay their dues to the board, we then will give them month-long time so they can reimburse it. Thereafter, if they request to stay as the franchisee, the board then will decide the matter,” he added.
Sinha, who is also an elected director of the BCB, said that they have paid all the dues of the overseas’ players but some cases of the local players remain unfinished.
“We have estimated that we will get an average of ten crore taka from every franchisee barring Rangpur Riders and Dhaka Gladiators,” Sinha said, adding “The franchisee can sit with us then they can say if they will have any say.”
About the new edition of the BPL, the chairman said, “In a bid to reduce irregularities, we are bringing some major changes in rules and regulations of the BPL constitution.”
“We’ve brought changes on fee for franchisee. We’ve tried to reduce it to be pragmatic this time. We have made the system of the payment for the local and foreign players easier than the past.”
It is known that each team could spend the maximum of US$ five lakh (Tk four crore) to form their respective team, where every team could rope in seven foreign players to register but could field four of them in a match.
The floor price has been fixed at US$50,000 for the foreign player. On the other hand, the range of the price for the local has been set at the minimum of Tk 10 lakh to maximum of Tk30 lakh.
