Cricketers return to normal business

Sports Reporter

The players started returning to their normal business as the clubs of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) recruited the cricketers following a ‘players by choice’s system. The teams have already identified in which position they need effective players to shed their weakness. Those loopholes are normally plagued by the overseas players. The clubs however at the moment are in talk with the foreign players and the development will be known in a few days.
While the clubs remain busy with finalizing the foreign players’ name, the players couldn’t let them to be idle even though scorching heat leaves the people in the country in a dismal condition. Braving the simmering heat, the players started gym and practice session and set a mission and vision for the upcoming DPL, slated to be held on April 22.
As there is no international scheduled before August, the most coveted league of the country is the only platform for the players to keep them in cricket. For some players, it is the platform to gain their form while for some, it will be the case to claim the stake at national team. For some the league, will be the ideal stage to show that they have yet something to give the country. And what would keep the fans’ finger crossed with anticipation is that all national players except Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman will be available for whole domestic season. Their participation will definitely add colour to the DPL and make it even more competitive.
“The DPL is platform for me to gain my form,” said batsman Mithun Ali who couldn’t fare well during the World T20. Mithun was roped in by Legends of Rupganj which will be coached by Khaled Mashud Pilot.
“I need to work with the weakness that I have. Every player in fact needs to increase the range of his shots if he wants to thrive. I am currently trying to increase the range of my shots which I will execute in the DPL,” he added.
Fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain was another player to loss his form suddenly during the World T20. The DPL will provide him to work with his weaknesses. But what would leave Al-Amin in troublesome condition, is the scorching heat which will take a stern test of the fast bowlers.
“We the players are used to play in heated weather but as a fast bowler I have to take care of myself. I have to increase my fitness level and also need to be careful so that I wouldn’t fall in unfortunate injury,” said Al-Amin who will be playing in Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club. He added: “I will work on my bowling more to make it effective for any condition.”
Leg-spinner Jubair Hossain Likhon on the other hand finally heaved a sigh of relief after getting a team. Since a leg-spinner tends to leak runs, normally no clubs lent interest to recruit him. He was however acquired by domestic giant Abahani Limited who emerged as the strongest team on paper after the players’ draft.
“I was advised by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza to practice as more as I can. He told me to correct my line and length,” Likhon said. “If I get the chance in the first XI, I will definitely try to show what I am capable of.”
