Australian team calls on DU VC
A two-member delegation led by Sherman Young, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Macquarie University, Australia, called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Sunday at his office.
Other member of the delegation was Tanveer Shaheed, Senior Country Manager of Macquarie International, a DU press release said.
Chairman of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering of DU Hafiz Md Hasan Babu was present on the occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of setting-up a Laboratory at the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, a newly established department of Dhaka University.
Prof Arefin sought cooperation from the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Macquarie University to develop the Mechatronics Engineering Department.
The possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on Mechatronics engineering by the University of Dhaka and Macquarie University, Australia were also discussed at the meeting. The DU VC thanked the guests for their visit to Dhaka University and keen interest in its academic and research activities.
3 DU students get scholarship
Three students of the Geography and Environment Department of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded AQM Mohiuddin Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship for their outstanding academic results in BS Honours examination in 2014.
The awardees are Al-Artat-Bin-Ali, M Ishfaq-Ur-Rahman and Syeda Shahida Moknum, said a press release. Vice-Chancellor (VC) AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarship among the students at a lounge besides VC office in the university. Treasure of the University M Kamal Uddin presided over the scholarship handing over ceremony while Chairman of the Geography and Environment Department Md Abdur Rob, Trustee of the Fund Prof Nazneen Afrose Haque and some faculty members were present.
Exhibition on leather goods footwear
Dhaka University Leather Engineering and Technology Institute held an exhibition on leather goods and footwear at the institute with the theme of Pahela Baishak, the first day of Bangla New Year. Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the exhibition yesterday evening with Director of the institute Professor Mohammad Aftab Ali Sheikh in the chair, a press release said. Later, a fashion-show on the theme Pahela Baishakh was also held.
French professor meets Prof Arefin
Professor of Research Institute of Chemistry of the University of Pierre and Marie Curie, France, Dr Boubakar Diawara called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office on Sunday. Dean of the Faculty of Science of DU Mohammed Abdul Aziz was present on this occasion, a DU press release said.
During the meeting they discussed about establishment of a new department titled Department of Computational Chemistry at DU. Prof Arefin sought cooperation from Dr Boubakar to run the department. The French Professor assured the VC of providing all possible supports in this regard. They also discussed the possibilities of introducing joint research programmes on computation chemistry.
Workshop on teacher training at BOU
A three-day workshop on Bachelor of Education (BEd) programme for the co-ordinator and tutors of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) commenced at the seminar hall of the university yesterday, says a press release.
Vice-Chancellor Bangladesh Open University MA Mannan inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. Dean School of Education Sufia Begum presided over the opening ceremony of the workshop. Among other Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Md Abu Taher, Treasurer and Dr Mohsinuddin president BOUTA who spokes in the programme as special guest. A total of 34 teachers who works as a co-ordinator and tutor of BEd programme of the university under school of education took part in the workshop.
