14 Shibir men held in Barisal
Police in a drive arrested 14 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir from a madrasah of the Gouranadi on Sunday evening on sabotage charges.
The arrestees include Gournadi upazila Shibir president Md Sabuj Hossain Hawlader, Rangpur divisional Shibir president Azadul Islam and Patuakhali district Shibir president Bayezid Matubbar. Being tipped off a team of police conducted drive in Kasemabad Siddiqia Kamil Madrasa of the upazila around 7am while they were holding a secret meeting and arrested them, said Alauddin Milan, officer-in-charge of Gournadi Police Station.

2 electrocuted in Ctg
A woman and a young man were killed due to electrocution at Bothatia Nagpara village in Lohagara upazilain Chittagong on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Rita Rani Devi, 29, wife of Bhashu Debnath of the village, and Ashutosh Debnath, 26, son of Sushil Debnath and brother of Bhashu. Mohammad Shahjahan, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said Ashutosh was repairing an electric line at his house around 8pm keeping the main switch off. At one stage Ashutosh was electrocuted as his mother turned on the main switch accidentally. Later, Rita Rani was also electrocuted as she tried to save Ashutosh. The duo was rushed to a private clinic in the upazila where doctors declared them dead.

‘Robber’ killed in mob beating
An alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob in Jangail area of Sadar upazila in Sylhet early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Joynal, 35, son of a robber ringleader Sarder Alta alias ‘Hadai robber’ of Paikraja village of the upazila. Locals said he was caught and beaten to death while trying to escape after a burglary in the village early in the morning. On information, police recovered the body.

Train kills two in capital
Chittagong-bound passengers train Subarna Express on Sunday killed two people, including a minor boy, within the span of 20 minutes on Dhaka-Chittagong rail line in Tejkunipara of Tejgaon and Maghbazar Peyarbag areas in the capital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Government railway Police (GRP) Abdul Majid confirmed the news. He said, “Jahidul Islam Joy, 8, a school student, died as the train hit him while crossing the rail line at about 3:20 pm. Earlier the same train hit Azhar Uddin, 45, an employee of Holy Family Hospital, killing him on the spot at Maghbazar rail crossing at about 3:10 pm.”
