All the socio-cultural, voluntary, NGO, business, professional organisations and educational institutions of Khulna are now busy with the preparation of ‘Chaitra Sangkranti’ and ‘Pahela Baishakh’ to bid farewell to the Bangla year 1422 and welcome the new Bangla year 1423 on April 13 and April 14 respectively that hardly varies with the Bangla calendar year introduced during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Later, they will organise discussion and cultural function. The businessmen in villages, hats, bazaars, sales centres and important places in both rural and urban areas will organise the century-old traditional Halkhata and will distribute sweets among their customers along with updating their accounts.
Khulna district administration will arrange three day-long various programme including colourful Baishakhi procession, discussion meeting, Palligeeti, Jarigan, Vatiali, Baul, Lalon Geeti, Nazrul Geeti, Rabindra Sangeet, folk songs, recitation of poems, stage dramas and Baishakhi fair-1423 on Zila Shilpakala Academy premises and Jatishango Shishu Park.
The programme will begin with a colourful ceremony welcoming Pahela Baishakh which popularly known as “Borshabaron with Rakhibandhon” in front of Khulna Public Hall (Zia Hall) in the morning.
