People of Lakutia area under Barisal Metropolitan city area formed a human chain and blocked Barisal-Babuganj road yesterday morning demanding to arrest persons responsible for killing of a college student Aminul Islam Ramzan.
After forming human chain, they brought out a procession in the city. Aminul Islam Ramzan, a student of Abdur Rab Serniabat College of the city and a HSC examinee, was attacked by a section of local criminals on Saturday evening at Lakutia under Airport police station of Barisal metro area. He died during treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning. Sabbir Hossain Rintu, one of the suspected killers, was arrested by police and family members of the suspected killers left the area, said Azad Rahman, assistant commissioner of the police station. Police and family sources said Ramzan was called over mobile phone by his neighbour Imran Hossain, son of Delwar Hossain Shikdar of Meghiya village adjacent to Lakutia Bazar on Saturday evening.
Later, Imran, his brothers and other associates beat Ramzan up mercilessly and left the spot.
Locals and family members rescued him and sent him to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead by the attending doctor on early Sunday.
Hearing the news, locals of the area blocked Barisal-Babuganj-Muladi Road. They also ransacked and set fire to six houses of alleged killers on Sunday late morning. Abdur Rashid, father of the victim, lodged a murder case against seven persons in this connection.
