The scourge of fake certificates
That people with fake academic certificates and falsified identifications are doing jobs in different organizations and engaged in different ways of earnings, is increasingly becoming a matter of serious concern. A report on this appeared in a reputed daily newspaper on Tuesday. The report said many people are working in different organizations by using fake academic certificates. It says there are people in medical profession, government service, teaching and in mass media who got their jobs in the first place using fake academic and other certificates.
Allegedly, fake certificates and mark-sheets are available at varying prices in the capital and other places of the country. The report says fake certificate makers are thriving in the capital and other places of the country. They are spreading their network quickly by using modern technology. Though a number of people connected with the malpractice have been arrested by police and RAB their deeply immoral activities have continued.
Owners of some computer shops and a section of employees of different education boards and universities are reportedly involved in this crime. Even a section of employees of the Dhaka Education Board are allegedly involved in making fake certificates of SSC and HSC for making quick bucks. Chawk Bazar thana police got evidence of such malpractice in May last year. It is also alleged there are some people who are working in the administrative section of Dhaka University (DU) who had submitted fake certificates when they applied for their jobs. The DU authorities are investigating the incident. Some have succeeded in landing lucrative part time work of tutoring students by using fake identity cards of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) , Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dhaka University. Parents and guardians who want their wards to be tutored by meritorious students of BUET, DMC, DU, etc., usually are successfully persuaded by such imposters.
Nilkhet of Dhaka is reportedly the ideal place for making fake certificates. Hardly a day passes without making fake certificates here according to the report ; fake trade licenses are made in the City Corporation Market. Some employees of DCC are involved in this cheating.
The makers of fake certificates must face deterrent punishment. Members of the law enforcement agencies must play their due role in this matter. Besides, creation of mass awareness can help prevent this malpractice. It is needless to explain how the countrys or societys best interests are undermined when people with false claims to professional training or academic performance can gate crash into positions of responsibility and remain in their positions, often unsuspected.
