Agitated people besieged house of an alleged rapist in Mirzapur town yesterday. They ransacked and damaged the house.
Police arrested the alleged rapist, identified as Abdul Karim Bhuyan, 55, of Bonsai Road in Mirzapur following a scuffle with the angry people.
At least five cops, including second officer SI Mosaraf Hossain, were injured in the melee.
According to local people and police, Abdul Karim Bhuiyan asked a 10-year girl of his neighbourhood in the afternoon to buy cigarettes for him from a shop.
When the minor girl came back with cigarettes the culprit grabbed her and raped.
The girl came out of the house screaming and fell unconscious.
On hearing the cries of the girl, local people rushed to the spot, surrounded the house and damaged the window panes.
As they tried to catch hold of Karim breaking the gate of the house police rushed to the spot to pacify the angry people.
In the ensuing five persons, including the police officer, were injured.
At one stage of agitation Karim came out of the house and surrendered.
Police arrested Karim and sent him to jail.
The girl has been admitted to Tangail Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital. Dr Rehena Parvin, an assistant Prof, there said symptoms of rape were found.
