�Poultry�s role vital to meet protein demand�

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a media workshop here observed that large-scale expansion of poultry farming could be the effective means of meeting the gradually increasing demand of animal protein, reports BSS. They said time has come to take forward the poultry industry for boosting meat and egg production to free the nation from protein deficiency as arable lands are gradually declining in the wake of population rising. Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Committee (BPICC) and Watchdog jointly organized the daylong poultry reporting workshop at Master Chef Restaurant in Rajshahi yesterday. More than 32 newsmen joined the programme. Former Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Sayeedur Rahman Khan addressed the closing session as chief guest. Chairman of Mass Communication and Journalism Department Dr Pradip Kumar Panday and Shashi Ahmed of Department of Veterinary RU, Additional District Animal Resource Officer Dr Zulfikar Akhtar Hossain and Chief Executive of Watchdog Sazzad Shahin also spoke. Highlighting salient features of egg and its nutrition values the discussants opined that egg is a balanced food to all irrespective of age and sex. They clarified that consumption of egg enhances power and capacity of all major organs of human body and without it he or she faces problem of nutrition deficiency. Referring to various research findings Shashi Ahmed said egg is relatively low in calories and saturated fat and rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and other healthy nutrients, which are good for the eyes, and choline, which is needed by nerves and the brain.
