Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun: Promises a Good Time
Lailun Islam Labonno
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is basically a romantic comedy type of anime. This anime consists of 13 episodes in total. It’s directed by Hiro Kaburaki and is written by Noboru Takagi.
The story is quite focused on the main characters. It is well presented and can manage to keep you on your toes. Two main characters of this anime are Haru Yoshida and Shizuku Mizutani. The story highlights the consequences of two very different people falling for each other in an unexpected way.
The actual story starts when Shizuku is forced to take classroom printouts to Haru as he continuously keeps being absent due to being a trouble maker. As they keep bumping into each other Shizuku realizes he is surrounded by fake friends and when she tries to step in he outrages but in the end he falls for her right on the spot.
Being on top of the class and so caring about studies, Shizuku considers Haru as just a distraction and tries to avoid him by walking away. Meanwhile, Haru comes back to attend classes and his hidden talent of being an amazing student gets revealed. Even though Shizuku rejects him first but she gives in and falls for him somewhere along the way too. But, nothing happens officially between them though.
The story takes a nice turn as Haru and Shizuku ends up with a bunch of people of various kind and their friend circle forms. Having a natural flow, the story isn’t exactly predicted. The unpredictable twists make it worth the watch. It can manage to capture your interest till the end. Haru can surprise you with the actions which you can never see coming.
Overall, this anime deserves a thumbs-up considering the genre. Pinch of laugh and excitement is blended together to ensure you a good time.
Midori Days: Old is gold
Adeeb Imtiaz
We keep saying that old is gold and in the world of anime you can find many old anime that are truly gold. One such anime is Midori Days which got aired in the year 2004, consisting of 13 episodes.
The anime follows the story of Reiji Sawamura, a delinquent, the toughest kid of his high school. And as such, he always attracts delinquents from other high schools and gets into fights with them frequently. His grades are poor and, because of his records, he doesn’t have any friends at high school. But, one girl from a different school, Midori, keeps looking and admiring him from afar and ultimately falls in love with him. Still, she can’t bring herself to confess to him for her shy nature. That all changes one day when Reiji wakes up to find his right hand replaced by a doll-like figure which is revealed to be Midori. Thus starts their struggle to cope with daily life and keep the fact that Reiji’s right hand is Midori a secret. Now many may say that it has very predictable ending but, I for one think that it doesn’t matter. The really good thing about this anime is its simple nature. It has romance, it has comedy and some heart felt moments but all of which is shown in the simplest way possible. And yet you will stay glued to it. The characters in the anime are really simple and full of conviction which makes the theme very well suited. The honest nature of the anime is also very noteworthy and the story progression is also quite simple. So, if you happen to love romantic comedy anime and you still haven’t seen it then I suggest you start right away.
