The ‘Players by Choice’ system helped every clubs of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) form a balanced team, said the officials.
Even though Abahani Limited appeared to be strongest on paper, recruiting the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, every team got their desired players at the end unlike the traditional Inter Club Players Transfer.
The money played a vital role in forming a balanced team in the past but the new system created a level playing field for all clubs.
“In this system, no clubs solely could form a balanced team. This system helped every clubs to gain something,” said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon.
The club officials were also happy with the outcome.
Tanjil Chowdhury, general secretary of the defending champions Prime Bank said, “Players by Choice is a matter of luck. We are lucky enough to form a team with the blend of youth. We’re happy to get it.”
Khaled Masud Pilot, coach of Legends of Rupganj pointed out, “Sometimes a team can’t form their expected team in draft session. But we formed a fantastic team what we expected. I think every side is balanced. We have tried to form a well-combination team of spinner, fast-bowler and batsman. We’re happy with our team.”
Masud-Uz-Zaman, secretary of cricket committee, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited said, they didn’t go for Mashrafe Bin Mortaza because they had a shortage of a wicket-keeper which filled with Mushfiqur Rahim.
“We have covered 80 percent from today’s players’ draft. Now the rest will be done.” “We had no best wicketkeeper-batsman. We took Mushfiq to fill up the void. He will lead the team.”
