The Power Division in a statement yesterday said the government will keep in mind the relevant environmental concerns, even as they implement the existing coal fired power plant projects in ‘greater national interest’, reports UNB. “Initiatives currently taken for a number of coal fired power plants in the country will be implemented with the protection of environment and public interest. All are requested extend their full-fledged support for the implementation of the coal fired power plants in greater national interest,” it said. The Power Division issued the statement in the wake of protests sparked by the killing of 4 people in a clash between the police and the locals at Gandamara village in Banshkhali upazila that took place on April 4 over the construction of a 1320 MW coal fired power plant.
