Mother, daughter found dead

Police recovered the bodies of a woman and her daughter from a house at Chowdala Puratan Bazaar in Gomos­tapur upazila of the district yesterday. They were identified as Ayesha Siddiqua, 25, wife of Apel Mahmud and their five-year-old daughter Raisa Mahmud. OC of Gomostapur police Golam Mortuza said Apel, an employee of non-government organisation ASA, who lived in a rented house, went to his office at around 7 am and returned home for lunch at 1 pm.
He knocked the door of the house several times, he got no response from inside. Later, he phoned his wife; but yet got no response. At this stage, he informed the locals and police. Police came and found Ayesha hanging from the ceiling and Raisa lying dead on the bed. It is now assumed that Ayesha has killed her daughter by suffocating and then committed suicide by hanging, the OC added. Police detained Apel Mahmud for interrogation, he further said. The bodies were sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
