Top seed Amol Roy of Engineers Club along with Ranjan Ram of International Club, Dipu Lal of Nordic Club and Anwar Hossain of British High Commission Club moved into the men’s singles semifinals of the Independence Day Tennis Tournament at the National Tennis Complex yesterday. A left-handed Amol eliminated Munir Hossain of British High Commission Club 7-6, 6-2 in a quarterfinal match. Ranjan Ram beat Mamun Bepari of Madaripur 6-2, 7-5, Dipu Lal beat Sajib Pasha of British High Commission Club 6-1, 6-0 and Anwar Hossain defeated Rubel Hossain of Barisal 6-7, 6-2 5-1 (retd).
Meanwhile, Popy Akhtar of BKSP outplayed Fabiah Lamisa Suchona of NTC 6-3, 6-1, while Etty Akhtar of BKSP defeated her teammate Zerin Sultana 6-2, 6-1 in the two semifinals of girls’ singles under-14 event.
Jewel of Elite Tennis Academy beat Saikat Shahriar 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, Faridur Reza of BKSP beat Rakib of NTC 6-2, 6-4, Tamim Bin Sakib also of BKSP beat Emon of Zafar Imam Tennis Complex 6-4, 6-2 and Md Shakib of Zafar Imam Tennis Complex outplayed Nahiduzzaman Sunny of BKSP 6-1, 6-0 in the four quarterfinals of boys’ singles uner-14 event.
