AIUB Became Champion in the Quiz Contest of National Campus IT Fest
A two-day long National Campus IT Festival-2015 for the fourth time was recently held at Teachers Students Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University aiming to build ICT based campus through technology friendly environment for students, says a press release.
There were 1500 participants from all over the country from different schools, colleges and universities. Different types of contest were held at the IT fest. One of them was NOESIS Quiz Contest where 26 teams from 26 universities participated. Each team consists of maximum 3 members. American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) was the champion of that quiz contest. AIUB team name was A Cube and members: Abdullah Al Imran , Md. Arafat Wasiullah and Pahlwan Rabiul Islam.
There were 3 rounds of the quiz contest. First round was MCQ round where 12 teams were selected for the next round. Then the second round started in the evening. It was stage round where team members were on stage. On stage judges asked different questions to each team. From them 12 teams highest scoring top 6 teams were selected for the final round. The selected 6 teams were from AIUB, ULAB, UIU, BUBT, JU, IUT. The final round was also an on stage question answering segment. In the end there was a quick quiz as a bonus for each of the 6 teams. Among them AIUB was champion and they were on top in each round.
The participants from AIUB are the members of AIUB Computer Club (ACC).
French Ambassador Visits EDU Library
Sophie Aubert, French Ambassador to Bangladesh, recently visited the library of East Delta University (EDU), Chittagong, says a press release.
Sayeed Al Noman, founder Vice Chairman of EDU, gave the guest a warm welcome, while Marc Schmitt, a French diplomat, and Professor Dr. Siddique Ahmed Chowdhury, treasurer of EDU, were also present on the occasion. Recent developments about the library were discussed in detail, including its future prospects and scope. Sayeed Al Noman said EDU is doing all it can to keep the library up to date with the latest books from all around the world. University of Oxford regularly provides books to keep the EDU library enriched.
Seminar on Earthquake Risk and Preparedness in Bangladesh Held at IUB
The School of Environmental Science and Management of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) recently organised a seminar on ‘Earthquake Risk and Preparedness in Bangladesh’ at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Professor Syed Humayun Akhter, chairman, Department of Geology, Dhaka University was the keynote speaker of the seminar. The speaker spoke on the recent earthquake in Nepal, the risk factors for Bangladesh and preparedness to meet the challenges of an earthquake.
Rashed Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, attended the seminar as the chief guest. Among others, Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, and Professor M Ali Hossain, dean, School of Environmental Science and Management, IUB, also spoke on the occasion.
The seminar was organised to observe the World Environment Day 2015. Apart from the seminar, a poster competition and tree plantation programme also arranged to mark the day.
Students, faculty members and management officials participated in the programmes.
Fruit Festival at World University of Bangladesh

The Cultural Club of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) arranged a two-day long Fruit Festival from June 8 to 9 on its Green Road campus in the capital. A total of 25 stalls were set up with different types of fruits on display.
The festival was inaugurated by Imdadul Haq Milon, novelist and Editor of Kaler Kantho newspaper. The festival was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of World University of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury and the welcome speech was delivered by the Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury. Special guests at the festival included Professor Dr. M Nurul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dr. Musfiq M Choudhury, Secretary Board of Trustees. Nader Choudhury, actor and director, Bangladesh Group Theater Federation; Mizanur Rahman, General Secretary, Bangladesh Patha Natok Porishod.
The closing ceremony of the festival was presided over by the Vice Chancellor and the chief guest was Professor Dr. Enamul Haque, renowned actor. Special guests included Professor Dr. M Nurul Islam, Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer Dr. Musfiq M Choudhury et al. Six of the stalls were specially and there were 17 prize winners in the heavily participated raffle draw.
Volunteer for Bangladesh Jessore District Observes World Environment Day
Marking World Environment Day 2015 Volunteer for Bangladesh, the volunteer platform of JAAGO Foundation, organised different programmes in several districts of Bangladesh under the slogan “16 Crore Dreams, One Planet, Consume with Care” .Volunteer for Bangladesh Jessore District marking World Environment Day 2015 arranged a cycle rally to promote environmentally friendly transport and aware the people about the environment. Around 50 members of Volunteer for Bangladesh Jessore District (VBD Jessore) attended in the rally with the slogan ‘Let’s Re-Build Our Nation’. The cycle rally started from Jessore Town Hall Maidan and went through Arabpur , Puler Hat and then returned to Town Hall. The cycle rally programme was presided over by Ariful Haque, president of Volunteer for Bangladesh Jessore District. “ Marking World Environment Day, we are very happy to take our initiatives arranging several environment related programmes. Climate change is the violation of Human Rights. United efforts should be made from all corners to protect human rights from hazardous environmental issues”, Ariful Haque told.
Earlier, they organised environment related workshops in different schools in Jessore town. Students of class three; four and five participated in the workshop. Teachers and guardians were present in the workshop.
Volunteer for Bangladesh Jessore District started its journey in 2012 with the initiative of Ariful Haque ,a student of Jessore MM College. Their first programme started in 2012 on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day(UCD). Since then VBD Jessore has been celebrating several programmes like Ekushey February, World Water Day, World Environment Day etc. Recently VBD Jessore raised fund from last UCD and used it for the beautification of Puler Hat Primary School, New Town Institute and Sandipon Institute.
Seminar on Higher Study Opportunity in US Held at Eastern University
Eastern University, in association with Edward M. Kennedy Center (EMK Center), recently organised a half daylong seminar on ‘Higher Study Opportunity in US held at the Seminar Hall of Eastern University. Sausan Rahmatullah, Education USA Advisor, EMK Center, Maggie E Espino, English Language Fellow of Eastern University, came from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Abu Hena Md. Rasel, Head of Career Services and International Office (CSIO), jointly conducted the seminar. Including faculties and officials more than one hundred EU registered students attended at the seminar.
This seminar provided a clear picture and presentation on the issues of US admission process, tips on applications, tests, scholarships and funding opportunity through a QA session by resource person Sausan Rahmatullah. It was an immensely informative session for those students who are interested in learning more about studying in the United States.
