ACC body to find names of Bangladeshis

Muhith asks ERD on financing two 4-lane highway, Ramu-Gundum rail link projects

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday formed a three-member probe committee to find out if there were any name of Bangladeshi nationals in leaked Panama Papers on swindling money by influential quarters. Pranab Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the ACC, said SM Akhtar Hamid, deputy director of the ACC, will lead the body. “If the committee finds the names of Bangladeshi nationals in the Panama Papers, it will collect detailed information about their offshore accounts there, he added. He further said the ACC will take legal action, if needed, after the findings. Earlier, names of a total of 32 Bangladeshi nationals and country’s two companies were reported among the massive leak of 11.5 million tax documents in the Panama Papers exposing their secret offshore dealings. An investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) claimed that Bangladeshi politician and businessman are also named in the massive leak of documents from the secret files of Mossack Fonseca, a law firm based in tax haven Panama. The ICIJ also published the name of Bangladeshi and its home address in their website. The names as given by ICIJ are A.S. M. Mohiuddin Monem, AFM Rahamatul Bari, Asma Monem, Azmat Moyeen, Bangla Trac Limited, BBTL, Capt. M.A. Jaul, Dilip Kumar Modi, Dilip Kumar Modi, F.M. Zubaidul Haque, F.M. Zubaidul Haque & Salma Haque, Jafer Ummeed Khan, Kazi Raihan Zafar, Khawza Sahadat Ullah, Mahtabuddin Chowdhury, Mirza M. Eyahia, Mohammad Aminul Haque, Mohammad Jahidul Islam, Mohammad Shahed Masud, Mohammad Shahed Masud, Mohammed Faisal Karim Khan, Mr Nazrul Islam, Nazim Asadul Haque, Nilufer Zafarullah, Salma Haque, Syed Serajul Huq, Syeda Samina Mirza, Tarique Ekramul Haque, Ummeh Rubana, Zafarullah Kazi, Zafarullah Kazi and Zafarullah Nilufer and Zafarullah Nilufer, Zulfiqur Hyder.
