The authority of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) yesterday suspended all the academic activities of the under graduate level for indefinite period following an eight-point movement of the students protesting the death of a fellow in road crash. On March 29, Mohammad Muhaiminul Islam, a level-5 student of Architecture Department of the university, was killed in a road accident at Modhunaghat area. After the incident the student started movement with eight-point demand. Over the movement a tension situation was prevailing on the CUET campus for the last seven days. The eight points demands, including arrest of the accused driver and to increase number of university vehicles. The university administration took the decision at an emergency meeting held yesterday morning with CUET vice-chancellor Jahangir Alam in the chair, said Fazlur Rahaman, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of CUET through a press release. All academic activities, including classes and examinations, for the under graduate students have been suspended until further notification, but post-graduate classes and examinations will continue as per regular schedule during the closure, the press release added. The university authority also asked the male students to vacate their respective dormitories by 3pm yesterday and female students by 10am today.
