Detectives yesterday pressed charges against nine people in the case filed in connection with the killing of four schoolboys at Sundrateki village in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj, reports UNB. Abdul Muktadir, officer-in-charge of district Detective Branch of police, submitted a charge sheet before the court. Those named in the charge sheet are Bachchu Miah, Abdul Ali Baghal, Jewel, Habibur Rahman Arju, Rubel Miah, Shaheb Sayeb, Billal, Ustar and Babul Miah.
Of them, Bachchu Miah was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chunarughat upazila of the district on February 24 while the other three are on the run.
On February 12, four children -- Zakaria Ahmed Shubha, 8, son of Wahid Miah, his cousins Tazel Miah, 10, son of Abdul Aziz, and Monir Miah, 7, son of Abdal Miah, and their relative Ismail Hossain, 10, son of Abdul Quadir of Sundratiki village under Bahubal upazila were kidnapped reportedly following an previous enmity between the victims’ guardians and their neighbour.
On February 17, the bodies of four missing children were found buried under sands on the bank of Kamaichhari River near the Sundratiki village. Informed by locals, police recovered the bodies of Zakaria, Tajel, Monir and Ismail Hossain.
A murder case was then filed with Bahubal Police Station. Later, the case was handed over to the Detective Branch of police. Families of the murdered children and people of the locality have been alleging police negligence over the murders and the incident kicked up a furore across the country.
