Two fertiliser factories stop production

Our Correspondent, Narsingdi

Ghorashal Fetiliser Factory and Polash Fertiliser Factory stopped urea production yesterday, official sources said. The two factories were forced to suspend operation after the Titas Gas authority snapped supply of gas, the main raw material for urea production. Ghorashal factory was producing 1,100 tonnes and Polash factory 280 tonnes of urea every day.  The move came after the government took decision to stop the gas supply to four urea fertiliser factories, including Ghorashal Urea Fertiliser Factory and Polash Urea Fertiliser Factory in Narsingdi, to increase supply of natural fuel to run power plants at the advent of summer. The government gives priority to production of electricity during summer to run power pumps for irrigation.
