India’s first semi-high speed train Nizamuddin-Agra Gatiman Express has been flagged off yesterday (April 5) by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu from Delhi’s Hazarat Nizamuddin Station, reports BSS.
The new train - that can reach a maximum speed of 160 km per hour - will operate between Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station and Agra Cantonment station. It will run six days a week, except on Fridays.
The Nizamuddin-Agra Gatiman Express runs at a speed of 160 kilometer per hour and covers the 200 km distance in one hours and 40 minute.
Powered by a 5,400 HP electric locomotive, the non-stop train will have two Executive AC Chair cars and eight AC chair car coaches. The fare for the fully air-conditioned Gatimaan Express has been fixed at Rs 750, while for the Executive class it will be Rs 1,500.
The train will have a high-power emergency braking system, automatic fire alarm, GPS-based passenger information system and sliding doors in the coaches. Hotspot devices have been installed at coaches to access multimedia services by passengers free of cost directly on their smart phones, tablets or laptops.
