A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2011.
The judge of Gazipur District and Session Judge Court AKM Anamul Haque passed the verdict yesterday. The court also fined the convict Tk 1000.
The convicted was identified as Kawser, son of Asmat Ali of Badalpara village under Bakergonj upazila in Barisal district.
According to the prosecution, Kawser, a ready made garments worker, killed his wife Narjina Khatun following an altercation over a family feud on December 9 in 2011 at a rental house in Khailkur area of Gazipur city. Locals detained Kawser and handed him over to police immediate after the incident. Elder sister, of the victim Shahnti Akter, filed a case with Joydebpur police station in this connection a day after of the incident. After examining witnesses and record, the judge announced the verdict against Kawser. However, Kawser remained in hiding after he got bail from the court.
