Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the capital’s development authority, was on an eviction drive yesterday in capital’s biggest kitchen market Karwan Bazar amid protest of businessmen.
“Businessmen have been illegally occupying state-owned space,” said Khandaker Alior Rahman, a director of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
Assisted by Tejgaon thana police the drive started at 10:00am and ended around 2:30pm.
Alior Rahman said: “We are evicting illegal installations. Establishments in 35,42 and 44 no. plot at Karwan Bazar were illegally raised.” During the eviction drive, the businessmen protested the eviction drive and chanting slogan against it. They even tried to vandalise some vehicles left in front of Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue and hurled brickbats targeting the police.
Later, police managed to bring the situation under control. Some businessmen alleged that RAJUK started the drive without giving any notice.
