CHITTAGONG: Premier University authorities here yesterday expelled 16 of its students and suspended seven others for their alleged involvement in the BCL man Sohel, a student of the university.
The action was taken following the report of a probe panel formed tolook into the incident, said university Proctor Ahmed Rajib Chowdhury.
He said the 16 students were expelled and another seven suspended as the allegation against them was primarily found true. The students who have already received the university degrees will see that revoked, the proctor said. The students who are rusticated are Ashraful Islam, Wahiduzzaan Nishan, Ziaul Haider Chowdhury, SM Golam Mostafa, Tamim Ul Alam, Ibrahim, Qazi M Joynul Abedin, Saif Uddin, M Abu Zahed Uzzal, Nizam Uddin, Rashedul Haque, Nazmul Haque, Nurmul Foysal, Saikul Mohammad Tarek, Saiful Islam Sakib and Abu Foyz. All of them are accused in the case filed over the killing of university student Nasim Ahmed Sohel, reports UNB.
Those suspended are Mozahidul Islam, Mohammad Masuk Kalam, Kaisarul Alam, Monir Ahmed, Kazi Mohammad Liakat, Mohammad Nizamul Galib Emon and Kazi M Ashraf Sayed. They were also served show-cause notices asking to explain why they should not be expelled from the university. Nasim, 21, an MBA student, was killed and two other students -- Imtiaz and Rony Chandra Sheel -- were injured in a clash between two factions of BCL at the university on March 29.
Later, a case was filed against 38 people with Chawkbazar Police Station in connection with the killing.
