Inu, DU VC, 23 others get death threats

A letter giving death threats to Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique and 23 others was received yesterday at the office of the DU vice-chancellor.
The letter was sent by a group claiming to be ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team-13’ and used a letterhead of the same name. It was sent by registered post to the office of the DU vice chancellor, said DU sources.
The others given death threat by the letter are: Journalist Abed Khan, DU Prof. Sayed Anower Hossain, Shahariar Kabir, Mofidul Haque, writer-teacher Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Nasiruddin Yousuf Bacchu, Ramendu Majumder, Ganajagaran Mancha spokesman Imran H Sarker, Bappaditto Bashu, Munni Saha, Nobonita Chowdhury, Shamol Dutta, Kamal Pasha Chowdhury, Shahin Reza Nur, Mahamudul Haque Munshi Badhon, Nazmul Siddiquee, Sayed Hasan Imam, Kaniz Aklima Sultana, FM Sahin, Arafat Rahaman, Anjon Roy, Monjurul Ahosan Bulbul and Sanggita Imam. The list will be elaborated in future, the group said in the letter.
When contacted, DU VC Arefin Siddique said he received the letter by post around 12:30pm yesterday. DU Proctor Amzad Ali said a case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station (case no. 840) over the death threats. He said that the law enforcers are working to identify the sender of the letter through different clues. No other person, who were given death treats in the letter, received any such letter until filing of this report yesterday evening.
This is the third time the DU VC has received death threat from groups claiming to be the Ansarullah Bangla team 13. In this regard, the DU VC told The Independent, “The law enforcers should identify the senders and they should be given exemplary punishment”.
On May 21, ten people including the DU VC also received similar letters giving them death threats.
