Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday said the present government has taken various steps to protect the rights of children and ensure the equality between boys and girls, reports BSS. "Present government is very careful to protect the children's rights," she said when UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Edouard Beigbeder paid a courtesy call on speaker at her office, a press release said here yesterday. They discussed various issues including the protection of children, convention of the rights of the children, age of crime of children, child marriage resistance and the minimum age of marriage. Dr Chaudhury, also chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) executive committee, said she will provide all sorts of assistance to the concerned ministry if it gives any proposal aiming to protect children's rights and create different opportunities for them. Edouard Beigbeder expressed satisfaction over the law of children's rights protection and called upon all to take necessary steps for its implementation.
