2 lakh mts wheat to be procured from Apr 10

The government will procure two lakh metric tons of wheat from farmers at Tk 28 per kg from April 10, said Food Minister Quamrul Islam yesterday, reports UNB.
The wheat procurement will start on April 10 and continue till May 31, he said while talking to reporters after a meeting of Food Planning and Monitoring unit at the secretariat.
Quamrul said the meeting also decided to provide 30 kgs of rice or wheat to 50 lakh destitute families per month across the country at a low cost and it will begin in July next.
Besides, the meeting decided to cancel the vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme, he said.
The UNO and the food inspector in each upazila will determine how rice or wheat will be distributed among the destitute, he added.
